About
After many years in the corporate world, I joined the world of academia four years ago, first as an LSE fellow in the Institute of Social Psychology and now as an educational developer with the Teaching and Learning Centre. My rather unusual background means that I bring to the task a deep understanding of the 'real world'.
Possibly as a result of my convoluted way of coming to academia, I am open to various theoretical frameworks and welcome innovative ways to combine them. However, I remain partial to the theory of social representations developed by Serge Moscovici nearly 50 years ago and especially appreciate the deep respect it shows for the common sense knowledge produced and used by lay people.
Thanks to the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education I completed two years ago, I have become keen to identify tools and approaches that can improve the teaching environment for our students both within and outside the classroom. Still, I remain committed to the development of my research interests, in particular the following ones:
The development and use of common sense, particularly as used over problematic health-related issues.
Possible uses of the theory of social representations within a corporate environment with a specific focus on corporate communication.
Social representations of ageing and the identification of measures that could delay the onset of dependency amongst the elderly.
Social psychology of vaccination.
